Bishop Auckland and District Pipes and Drums
The formation of the band began over 20 years ago. Over the years, changes of venue and personnel saw that band morph into Richmond Town Pipes and Drums (RTPD) and then the Rowan Pipe Band (RPB). On September 7th 2011 the latest progression took place and Bishop Auckland and District Pipes and Drums (inc RTPD and RPD) was created, with John Atkinson-Millmoor as the Pipe Major. The current Pipe Major is Doug Ratcliffe.
It was proposed that the idea that a pipe band would be a useful addition to the musical and cultural life of Bishop Auckland. The band now appears regularly at functions in and around Bishop Auckland and adjoining Counties.
