Bishop Auckland and District Pipes and Drums
The formation of the band began over 20 years ago with P/M Barry Waldron setting off on his own quest, forming Teesdale Pipes and Drums. Over the years, changes of venue and personnel saw that band morph into Richmond Town Pipes and Drums (RTPD) and then the Rowan Pipe Band (RPB). On September 7th 2011 the latest progression took place and Bishop Auckland and District Pipes and Drums (inc RTPD and RPD) was created, with John Atkinson-Millmoor as the new Pipe Major.
It was proposed that the idea that a pipe band would be a useful addition to the musical and cultural life of Bishop Auckland. The band now appears regularly at functions in and around Bishop Auckland and adjoining Counties.
If you would like to join us please feel free to contact the Pipe Major, Mr. John Atkinson-Millmoor

Full band practice sessions are held at the Henknowle Community Centre, Cumbria Place, Bishop Auckland, County Durham DL14 6TJ (view on a map) on Tuesdays, from 6.30 pm to 9.30 pm.
The first hour is generally dedicated to teaching learners.
The band spends quite a bit of its time fundraising so that members can receive the best quality equipment and have somewhere to practice.
We also raise money by levying a band subscription which currently stands at £2 per week for those over 16 years of age, and £1 per week for those under 16.
This money can be paid either in full at the start of the band financial year or spread out over the year.
Either way, it’s a cheap way to learn a lifelong musical skill.
